A case of large gastric schwannoma without symptoms

A 78-year-old woman with a decreased renal function was referred to our hospital after simple computed tomography (CT) revealed gastric mass. There were no abnormal findings on physical examination and blood tests. Upper gastrointestinal endoscopy showed 50-mm submucosal tumor central depression in the body, enhanced CT heterogeneous contrast effect Malignant stromal suspected, partial gastrectomy performed. The yellowish-white smooth margins clear borders. Immunostaining positive for S-100 negative CD34, c-kit, desmin, alpha-smooth muscle actin, diagnosed as schwannoma. Gastric schwannomas arise from Auerbach's plexus muscularis propria of wall are often difficult diagnose preoperatively. In Japan, frequency malignancy schwannoma is 10-25%, treatment method should be carefully considered.
